Any product that you want to add to an order must first be defined in the the Product module. Refer to the Product documentation for additional information about setting up products. 

As described in Two Ways to Enter Material, the system provides two basic methods for adding products to your order:

  • By Product - recommended method for non-rebar products
  • By Characteristics - recommended method for fabricated rebar; also appropriate for other fabricated products such as lumber or pipes.

Instructions for both methods are described below.

Entering Products - Common Method: By Product

To add a product to your order (entry by product):

  1. In the Product Category field, select the category to which the product belongs.
  2. In the Product field, select the product you want to add to the list.
    The product may be a finished good, such as mesh sheets or high chair, or it may be an assembled kit, such as a pre-built cage. For complete details about kit products, refer to Working with Assemblies.
  3. Complete the Order Quantity and Order Quantity Unit of Measure fields. These fields are required for all non-comment line items.
    Based on the product category, the product may have additional required or optional fields to complete:
    • If required, click Click Open Right Pane to display the Right Menu Pane if it is not already open.
    • In Right Pane dropdown, select Characteristics.
    • Complete Characteristic fields as required for the product. 

Notes

    • Characteristic fields are user-defined and based on the product category. They may include any number or kinds of fields.
    • If no fields display under Characteristics, this simply means that the selected category has no characteristic fields defined. Many types of products do not require characteristics.
    • Based on the product's definition, certain characteristic fields may be pre-populated and disabled; these fields cannot be changed without selecting a different product.
  1. After completing fields, press Enter or click Finish to complete and save the line item. 

Entering Products - Alternate Method: By Characteristics

To add a product to your order (entry by characteristics):

  1. In the Product Category field, select the category to which the product belongs.
  2. Skip the Product field. 
  3. Complete the Order Quantity and Order Quantity Unit of Measure fields. These fields are required for all non-comment line items.
  4. Complete the Characteristic fields for the item:
    • If required, click Click Open Right Pane to display the Right Menu Pane if it is not already open.
    • In Right Pane dropdown, select Characteristics.
    • Complete Characteristic fields. 

Notes

    • Characteristic fields are user-defined and based on the product category. They may include any number or kinds of fields.
    • The program will validate and force you to complete enough of the characteristic fields in order for it to find a unique match among your defined products.

The program automatically populates the Product field based on your entries in Characteristics. Changing characteristics will often change the product. 

  1. After completing fields, press Enter or click Finish to complete and save the line item.
